From a short story
to a visual world.

The seven-stage workflow I use to move from an idea to AI-assisted characters, scenes and a finished short-form film.

One of my favourite AI experiments begins with the oldest creative object: a story. A few paragraphs can become a character sheet, a visual world, a sequence of scenes and finally a short video. The technology makes the path shorter, but it does not remove direction, taste or quality control.

Step 1: Write the emotional premise

I begin with who the story is for, what the character wants and what should change by the final scene. AI can suggest plot options, but the premise needs a human reason to exist.

Step 2: Create a small story bible

Before generating images, I define names, ages, clothing, colours, locations, relationships and the rules of the world. This document becomes the consistency reference for every later prompt and edit.

Step 3: Build character references

I generate several directions, select one and create reference views for face, body, wardrobe and expression. The rejected images matter: they reveal what the model keeps changing and what the next prompt must constrain.

Step 4: Design scenes before motion

Each scene is composed as a still first. I check continuity, lighting, hands, gaze, background geometry and whether the frame communicates the intended beat. Moving a broken image only creates a moving broken image.

Step 5: Add controlled motion

Motion is introduced shot by shot with a clear camera instruction and short duration. I prefer several simple, usable clips to one spectacular generation that changes the character halfway through.

Step 6: Edit like a filmmaker, not a generator

The final work is assembled through timing, cuts, sound, captions and colour. Music must be licensed or added through the platform's official audio tools. Captions are written exactly and checked on a phone.

Step 7: Review the claim behind the image

If a scene looks documentary, the audience should not be led to believe it records a real event. The closer synthetic media gets to reality, the more important context and disclosure become.
